Stay away from the masquerade, the players arrayed in paper mache, As brides and grooms, witches with brooms, the room festooned with moons and tombs. Be afraid They’re eating, entreating, preening and teeming, but HE is seething, he’s engineering and scheming, He hides out of sight, an eye without light; he’ll deny a life; it’s his delight. Be fearing Do not engage in his fake imitation of trade, his fabricated charade; He's a blight, never contrite, he’ll pry and try to invite you into the night. Be affright He’ll aim to betray, he’ll delay to display his blade with a handle made of jade; Halloween is his screen, his eerie dream, he’ll leave you to bleed, ceasing to breathe; Be afraid Be afraid Copyright © 2022 Brandon Ellrich
