Written and Directed by M. Knight Shyamalan

“Knock at the Cabin”
I love (most of) M. Knight Shyamalan’s movies! Even regarding the ones I didn’t love, I still enjoyed them. They are so well done and I never predict the endings. There is almost always some weird twist in them that you don’t see coming and I love twists! Does that mean I’m twisted? Let’s not answer that.
After seeing the previews for Knock at the Cabin I really wanted to see it. It is described as an “apocalyptic psychological horror film” and I think that is an accurate description. The premise of the movie is that there is a group of individuals who come to a family’s cabin in the woods. These “strangers” tell the family that the end of the world is about to occur and that they must choose to sacrifice one of their own family members in order to stop it from happening.
I hate spoilers and I think it ruins my overall enjoyment of the show/movie/book to know too much. These details are all apparent in the previews, so I’m giving nothing away. I’m not sure I should give any more information other than that, though.
The movie was intense, cringe-worthy, and a bit creepy at times. The actors did an excellent job. I’m not sure I had seen any of them in previous work, which made it better for me. There were aspects of the film that I thought were very good, but I must say, I was a bit let down by what happened. Again, I won’t give anything away, but compared to his other movies, I didn’t think this one rose to that level.
It was number one at the box office a couple of weeks ago, beating out Avatar: The Way of Water, so obviously it was enjoyed by a lot of people, or at least garnered a lot of anticipation. If you like M. Knight Shyamalan’s other movies, you should see this one as well.
I give this one 4 out of 5 stars.

We saw it too and everyone in the family really enjoyed it except me. The acting was good and the story was very engaging, but there was something not quite satisfying about the ending. I think I wanted more of a twist…maybe that’s it. It seemed straight forward, which isn’t how his movies usually feel.

Exactly what I thought too. You tend to expect the unexpected with his movies.
